There is much to see and do in the Blue Ridge Mountains and greater Copper Basin area. Consider the following for your next excursion into the mountains of North Georgia or Southeast Tennessee:

A wide array of antique & specialty shops, art galleries and restaurants can be found downtown. Just a short trip away are multiple opportunities for enjoying the Appalachian Mountain air, with hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, camping, rafting and horseback riding available. It all starts with just one visit.

Downtown Blue Ridge ~ Antique hunters extol the virtues of the many antique shops located in the downtown business district. There are several specialty and gift shops offering a wide variety of crafts and artwork. The Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association sponsors monthly exhibits in their gallery located at 2045 East First Street and every Sunday in August. Free concerts in the downtown city park begin at 6:30 p.m. The historic Blue Ridge train depot is also located downtown.

Blue Ridge Community Theatre ~ Located in Hampton Square, the theatre hosts full-scale musicals and productions throughout the year. For more information and ticket prices, call 706-632-9223. John Foster Realty is a proud sponsor of the theatre and Sunny D Children's Theatre.

Pickin' in the Park ~ A wonderful musical event held every Thursday from May through the end of September, Pickin' in the Park is a series of weekly jam sessions nuturing local acoustic music. Bring an instrument or just come to listen, grill-out or dance on the banks of the Toccoa River. For more information, visit the website located in our "Links" section or call 423-496-4653.

Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race ~ An annual event held in the spring of each year for hearty souls featuring running, mountain biking and kayaking along the beautiful Toccoa River.

Ocoee Whitewater Center ~ Sited in the breathtaking natural surroundings of the Cherokee National Forest on the Ocoee River, the Whitewater Center was the site of the whitewater canoe and kayak venue for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. The center offers several whitewater competitions and other events throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons. For information on scheduled events and programs, call 423-496-5197.

Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association ~ An excellent group of artist and members who have dedicated themselves to the enhancement and preservation of quality and accessibility to the arts. The association works to honor mountain culture using arts and crafts, and works to promote multi-cultural arts through performance, demonstration and education. Sponsored events include the Blue Ridge Writers Conference in March, the Arts in the Park festival in May, Concerts in the Park during July and August, the Children's Nature Arts Camp and Children's Summer Arts Program in June and July, the Wildlife Arts Festival in September and the Holiday Art Show and Sale in November. Educational opportunities include ballet, music, painting, drawing, stained glass, quilting, sculpting, storytelling, woodworking, genealogy, native American crafts and Christmas craft classes. For additional information contact 706-632-2144.

Trout Fishing in North Georgia ~ Trout fishing opportunities abound in Fannin County and include heavily-stocked streams, wilderness streams, streams with special regulations and small impoundments. Trout streams are open to fishing during trout season (the last Saturday in March through October 31 each year) or are open year round. Please refer to the current Georgia Sport Fishing Regulations for details and listings of seasonal streams and year round streams. The Wildlife Resources Division of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service stock streams with rainbow and brown trout from early August through mid-September. The number of trout stocked depends on a stream's fishing pressure, accessibility and water conditions. Usually, streams on public lands are stocked more often and with a greater number of trout.

Chattahoochee Forest National Fish Hatchery ~ For the first time in more than thirty years, the Fish Hatchery is raising and distributing brook trout. Over 5,000 were stocked last year and the hatchery recently began their release program. The following is a local list of sites to be stocked with trout during the week of April 21 - 25, 2008: Big Creek, Blue Ridge Tailwaters below Lake Blue Ridge, Hothouse Creek, Hemptown Creek, Rock Creek, Wilscot Creek and the Toccoa River.
